New South Wales’ Central West region was the centerpiece of a bike ride on Sunday as more than 1,300 riders took part in Bicycle Network’s second annual Newcrest Orange Challenge.
After a foggy start, overcast skies soon gave way to beaming sunshine as riders from across Australia enjoyed the challenging hills, quiet country roads and picturesque scenery that the region offers.
As expected, riders took roughly three hours to complete the 70km ride to Canowindra and between five and nine hours to complete the full 170km loop through Cargo, Canowindra, Mandurama and Forrest Reef.
Locals also joined riders and supporters as they celebrated their achievement at the family-friendly Food and Wine Festival in the centre of the Orange Velodrome, with local produce, live music and activities for the kids.
Event organisers Bicycle Network worked closely with local stakeholders including NSW Police and Ambulance NSW in the lead up and throughout the day and were happy with the behaviour of riders.
